This article, extracts of which were published in Business and Finance (Edition: 21st-27th September, 2000), deals with the legal implications of doing business on-line. The writer refers briefly to issues such as handling electronic payments, delivery of goods, out of date price lists, trade mark infringement, brand protection, defamation, and consumer rights, and selling or buying outside Ireland. Particular attention and some useful tips are given to the implications of contracting on-line (standard form contracts, B2C contracts, delivery, withdrawal, payment) and the virtues of good information technology and website management.
